MTR Express was the first competitor to challenge the train monopoly in Sweden. Their advantage? Brand new comfortable train and great service. With over 93% in customer satisfactory they've sure made an impact on Swedish rail traffic.

My role in the MTR Express project was as lead UX Designer, working tightly with MTR Express bringing IT solutions to their business. My involvement  span over various solutions, from website and e-commerce driven product development to smartphone apps used by train crew in their work.

Booking a trip

It's all about creating a smooth and easy way for the customers to book tickets. Nothing fancy, only a pure and focus drive design approach was the goal with the UX and UI for the app.

Choosing your ticket

With small screens the right type of information is very important.

A quick and easy way of choosing your ticket led to a scrollable pricing matrix and always being able to continue to the next step.

FIX, FLEX OR FIRST CLASS PLUS?

Selecting tickets is one of the most important parts for MTR Express customers. Price, whats included and availabiltiy are all part of what customers want to understand while buying their ticket.

The pricing model was based on a small,medium & large matrix. For MTR Express it was of course important to make it available to provide additional features for customers, in all classes.

The calendar view of the app is the main view and the most important. NaturalCycles is all about tracking your menstruation cycle. Therefore the main view use of friendly colors to display "OK" and "bad" days.

SEATING FOR EVERYONE.

Every customer at MTR Express have the option to select seating. This way people who had preferences could select the specific seat that they preferred. This was especially appreciated by people who wanted to sit in the train direction or be seated at a table.

At the time for the implementation of this feature, MTR Express was the only train company in Sweden that provided this feature.

Crew app

A major part in the launch of MTR Express was to give the onboard crew a tool that they can use with ease, so they can focus on the train customers. The crew app was made for iPhone and on a distribution system so crew could get updates and features without having to download new apps from App store.

For the crew working onboard the trains the ticket sale needed to be quick and easily managed. All the essential information, in one view.
